COVID-19 testing at airports

In cooperation with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Data4Life conducted COVID-19 testing at the Berlin airports for passengers arriving from high-risk areas.

In August 2020, Federal Minister of Health at the time Jens Spahn announced mandatory testing for SARS-CoV-2 for any travelers arriving in Germany from coronavirus risk countries. Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Data4Life set up testing centers at Tegel and Schönefeld airports to prepare for dozens of incoming flights per day.

All arrivals from risk countries were asked to register in the Data4Life app and get tested directly at the airport. Following a swab of the nose and throat, those tested were instructed to continue to their final destination and wait in quarantine. Lab results were delivered digitally within a few days using the test results delivery feature developed by Data4Life.
