It is once again possible to travel throughout Europe since there are currently no travel warnings for any European countries. Traveling in Europe with an appropriate COVID-19 vaccination certificate simplifies entry into Germany. As of June 11, 2022, all COVID‑19 entry restrictions to Germany are lifted. Entry to Germany is permitted for all travel purposes including tourism. It is no longer necessary to present proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative test result for entry to Germany.

Travelers should be aware that the spread of coronavirus in Europe is constantly changing, and new variants may emerge at any time. There is no longer a federal refund program. It is recommended to travel with an appropriate travel insurance.

Travel warnings and risk areas in Europe

There are currently no coronavirus risk areas or high-risk areas in Europe. However, the situation can change at any point, and some countries may be reclassified as high risk areas or areas with variants of concern. New COVID-19 travel warnings for Europe are not currently in place, but can be issued by the German Foreign Office at any time if necessary.

Coronavirus entry requirements in the EU

Entering Germany from EU member states and Schengen countries is permitted for all travel purposes. From other countries, entry is also currenlty possible. Additional information can be found here.

Check the respective entry regulations of EU member states before booking and starting a trip to determine if there are any requirements such as testing or booster vaccinations. In some cases, PCR tests or proof of a negative rapid test could still be required.

Coronavirus regulations in Europe

Although coronavirus numbers are still high in many European countries, and in some cases continue to rise, rules and travel regulations are being lifted. The current coronavirus situation is much more relaxed due to less severe courses of infection with Omikron.

For many trips in Europe, PCR tests are no longer necessary and travelers no longer have to quarantine. The mask requirement has also been lifted in many countries. Information about coronavirus-related restrictions in each of the respective European countries should be checked before traveling.

Traveling within Europe depends largely on the current rate of infection in each country and region. Entry regulations are therefore constantly being updated. Due to fluctuating numbers, certain countries could be declared risk areas. Anyone returning from a risk area must get tested for coronavirus.
